Environmental Studies Association of Canada
What is ESAC?
The Environmental Studies Association of Canada (ESAC) is the nation’s leading scholarly community of environmental researchers and educators.
Founded in 1993, ESAC is a non-profit, federally incorporated, bilingual organization. Our members are located across Canada and internationally and hold roles within education, government, private, and non-profit sectors. As investigators, educators, guides, supporters, and facilitators, ESAC represents a dynamic community of environmentalists committed to nurturing a viable and just future for social and ecological systems.
In collaboration with the Congress of the Canadian Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences, ESAC organizes an annual conference where leading and emerging environmental scholars from around Canada and the world gather to share knowledge in an interdisciplinary and collegial setting. In support of low-carbon academic travel, ESAC has offered digital conference participation options since 2018.
Each year, ESAC honours individuals, teams, and organizations who have positively contributed to the field of environmental studies in Canada through community-building, research, knowledge-to-action, and innovations in practice through the Environmental Community’s Organizer ‘ECO’ Award.
