Sayeh Dastgheib-Beheshti is a PhD student in the faculty of Environmental and Urban Change at York University in Toronto, Canada, where her research aims to identify and shed a light on the diversity of ways in which design takes place and contributes to social well-being, and explore ways in which design can break from the confines of hegemonic triad assemblages of economy, society and environment, and find alternate ways of practicing design that lead to more harmonious livelihoods.

She studied Industrial (product) design at Art Centre College of Design (Europe) in Switzerland and worked for over two decades in diverse industries including automotive, aerospace and motion capture systems. Following years of teaching part-time in higher education, she pursued her Masters at York University’s faculty of environmental studies by examining product design through a systemic lens of ecological economics.

She is currently the chair of the Toronto chapter of Industrial Designers Society of America and an avid gardener. In her spare time, she leads gardening groups to grow native plants and create gardens.
