Peri Dworatzek

Peri is a SPhD student at York University

I currently am a PhD student at York University in the Faculty of Environemental and Urban Change (EUC). I am focusing my studies on community applications of Ecological Footprint and Biocapacity.

I did my Bachelor's degree at Carleton University, in Global and International Studies. I also completed the Masters in Environmental Studies (MES) at York University. I focused my studies on nature-based climate solutions, and my major research specialized in evaluating ecosystem service payment programs in Canadian public policy. During the MES I also worked as a Data Analyst for the Ecological Footprint Initiative (EFI), producing the 2023 and 2024 editions of Ecological Footprint and Biocapacity Accounts. I also conducted research in partnership with EFI and the Rural Ontario Institute to produce Ecological Footprint and Biocapacity accounts for Ontario communities.

In my free time, I enjoy running, reading, taking care of my two cats, and spending time with my friends!

Why did you join ESAC?

I joined ESAC after attending the 2022 conference, where I presented a paper and chaired a session. I was drawn towards the enthusiastic and friendly community of academics and professionals who were attending and coordinating the conference. This encouraged me to attend ESAC’s annual general meeting (AGM) shortly after the conference, where I got to meet other board members and members of ESAC. At the AGM I learned more about the work that ESAC does and decided I wanted to contribute to this work and become part of a great team! The people behind ESAC foster a dynamic and thoughtful community for Environmental Studies in Canada.
