What is ESAC?
The Environmental Studies Association of Canada (ESAC) is Canada’s leading scholarly network of environmental researchers and educators. We are a non-profit, federally incorporated, bilingual organization open to members from across Canada and elsewhere. Members are welcome from educational institutions, government agencies, and private sector and non-profit organizations. Join us!
ESAC itself is one of over 80 scholarly associations with membership in the Canadian Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences (CFHSS). Our Annual Conference and Annual General Meeting are held each year in conjunction with the CFHSS ‘Congress’.

ESAC and Alternatives Journal (A\J) collaboration
A\J (Alternatives Journal) is Canada’s only national environmental media organization and our community’s only nonprofit publisher, providing intelligent & informed environmental journalism since 1971. A\J is also a not-for-profit organization and a registered Canadian charity engaged in environmental education and community-building activities.
Together, both organizations collaborate to produce events like the ESAC Annual Conference, panel discussions and other like-minded initiatives, while also working collectively to foster more opportunities for environmental academics and students to share insights, ideas and inspiration that will fuel our research and empower our work.
ESAC and A\J are working diligently, every day, to help Canadians learn more about environmental issues. And together with your support, we are fully confident in our abilities to deliver upon that goal.
