Call for Nominations for 2021 ECO-Award

Purpose and Context
The Environmental Studies Association of Canada (ESAC) is pleased to call for nominations for the annual Environmental Community’s Organizer (ECO-Award). Each year, the ECO-Award honours an individual, team, or organization who has positively contributed to the field of environmental studies in Canada through community-building, research, knowledge-to-action, and/or innovations in practice or approaches.
Nominations for or applications from individuals, groups, or organizations who work in interdisciplinary and multi-sectoral teams to advance the field of environmental studies through the development, enhancement, or expansion of innovative collaborations and networks are particularly encouraged.
Nominations are due by 11:59 p.m. EST on Friday May 21, 2021. Please click here to access the online nomination form.
This award is made possible by a healthy level of participation and membership in Canada’s environmental studies community. All nominators and nominees are encouraged to participate in ESAC by maintaining their ESAC memberships or becoming members.
Selection Criteria
Selection of the award will be made by ESAC’s Awards Committee. Winners will be notified by the end of May and officially announced and honoured virtually at ESAC’s 2021 annual conference.
The ECO-Award selection committee will evaluate nominees based on the following criteria:
- The nominee works within the field of environmental studies in Canada;
- The nominee contributes to community-building within the field of environmental studies through the creation of partnerships, networks, relationships and projects;
- The nominee demonstrates collaborative and reciprocal relationships and partnerships to address issues of importance to the field of environmental studies;
- The nominee increases environmental awareness through knowledge-sharing and outreach activities;
- The nominee encourages environmental action and empowers and supports others to become involved in activities related to the field of environmental studies; and
- The nominee promotes the mobilization of knowledge and research to action and practice.
Required Information
- Names and email addresses of the nominator and the nominee(s). Self-nominations are permitted.
- Description of the initiative, work, or project of the individual, group, or organization using the following questions as a guideline (maximum of 750 words):
- How does the nominee’s initiative, work, or project contribute to community-building within the field of environmental studies?
- How does the nominee’s initiative, work, or project demonstrate collaborative and reciprocal relationships and partnerships to address issues of importance within environmental studies?
- How does the nominee’s initiative, work, or project increase environmental awareness through knowledge-sharing and outreach activities?
- How does the nominee’s initiative, work, or project encourage environmental action and empower or support others to become involved in activities or initiatives related to environmental studies?
- How does the nominee’s initiative, work, or project promote knowledge mobilization and action?
- How does the nominee’s initiative, work, or project benefit others or environmental studies in Canada?
- Is this a one-time project, or is it ongoing?
- Are there any other aspects of the nominee’s initiative, work, or project that you wish to highlight?
- Letter of support: Please upload one letter of support from an individual who can validate the nomination and provide further information, background, or testimony about the value and impact of the nominee’s work and the nominee’s suitability for this award.
- Additional attachments (optional): Please upload a maximum of 5 additional and relevant attachments (e.g., CV, photographs, testimonials, publications, etc.) which may illustrate the quality, suitability, and impacts of the nominee(s) for this award and may be helpful to the selection committee.
